The Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation (RES) recently held a successful Wellness Champions Day, emphasising the organisations commitment to promoting health and wellness among its nearly 4 000 employees.
The event brought together Wellness Champions to collaborate, play games, socialise and share ideas enhancing their crucial roles in driving awareness of health issues, promoting disease prevention in the workplace.
A wellness champion is an individual trained in medical and wellness practices, dedicated to facilitating access to medical services, actively participating in lifestyle health programmes and providing ongoing information on wellness.
Their efforts focus on addressing the ten domains of health and wellness and well-being, making them vital assets in fostering a healthy workplace.
Nick Jackson, Managing Director of RES highlighted the champions commitment to employees' wellness, stating, "our employees are the backbone of our success; their hardwork and motivation are what drive us forward."
He praised the Wellness Champions as leaders and role models who inspire their colleagues and create a culture of health throughout the organisation.
Dr Rhoy Shoshore, Human Capital Manager for Health and Wellness, acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the wellness champions in shaping a healthier workplace. "The year 2024/25 marks a pivotal time for our medical and wellness programmes, influenced by ongoing assessments and stakeholder feedback. Our commitment to enhancing health and wellness among employees is unwavering," he said.
During the celebration, Dumisa Bhembe from Agriculture Production was honoured as the Male Wellness Champion of the Year, while Gugu Matsenjwa from Sugar Warehouse received the award for Female Wellness Champion.
The event was attended by 302 employees, including Wellness Champions and Contractors, all dedicated to promoting health and well-being within the organisation.
As RES prioritises the well-being of its workforce, it sets a commendable standard for corporate responsibility and employee care in the industry, urging everyone to continue championing wellness and making meaningful impact in the community.
