RES UNLEASHED MORE TECHNOLOGY TO ITS BUSINESS

SIMUNYE – RES continues to be a technology driven organisation, possessing a mature framework for innovation and the adoption of technology.

Digital is the way for the future according to RES Managing Director Nick Jackson.
“The future lies in digital transformation and we need to align with changes in this environment. In the past financial year, we managed to launch at least seven projects,” Jackson said, adding that technology was crucial for the sustainability of the company.
“The RES Corporation is the largest contributor to the socio-economic development of Emaswati. The company spends more than E1.7billion out of the annual E2.3billion on goods and services. This is in addition to the thousands of jobs that are created directly by RES and those that result from the engagement of contractors. Saving water will definitely increase the company’ sustainability so that we can continue to share the value we create with and for our stakeholders.”
Among the projects listed by Jackson included but not limited to; KRONOS (a time management system which has been integrated with SAP), CanePro/SAP (ABS integration which allows better flow of information between the two systems), SPEAR (a strategy management and reporting system), SAP COPA (a system that enables reporting of the profitability of the distillery products across the regions, transport methods and customers, just to mention a few. The projects are supportive of the company’s Simama 20-25 strategy which is focusing on reducing the unit cost, improving efficiency and increasing production capacity.
“Due to foresight in previous years, RES already had the required technology, such as Microsoft Teams, to enable remote working when lockdown restrictions were imposed. The Covid-19 pandemic resulted in an acceleration of the use of digital technology and connectivity to ensure business continuity.”
Jackson added that the company’s IT Department led by Group IT Manager Rob Coombe drives an increase in value for all stakeholders by improving cross-functional IT adoption and the effective use of technology and innovation.
Noteworthy is that RES Corporation was the first company in the African region to introduced SAP. SAP stands for Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing. SAP, by definition, is also the name of the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software as well as the name of the company.
Jackson added that the IT Department continues to facilitate discussions around improvements to systems and processes.
“We continue to pursue our digital strategic themes enabling; customer focus and service, ownership, business process automation, information management, adherence to our digital governance and innovation framework, and technology management,” the sugar company’s captain concluded.
