MHLUME – RES Corporation has recognised 120 employees who have diligently served the sugar company for 10, 20, 30 and 40 years.
The event was held at Mhlume Country Club.
The 120 employees received prestigious awards along with monetary awards in terms of the company’s policy on rewarding long service.
RES Managing Director Nick Jackson said: “I honestly thank you for the tremendous length of time and energy you have spent with us over these years. The results of your hard work have led RES to the company we are today. We are here today to honour your talent and dedication to RES.”
“I know things have not been very smooth and there have been times we have been crazy with tight deadlines and demanding situations, yet you have demonstrated a positive attitude and perseverance in such times. Maybe you never thought we noticed your efforts and every sacrifice you go make,” Jackson added.
In total the years of service from all 120 employees amounts to 2 320 years.
Each employee received a prestigious glass trophy with the number of years engraved on it. “You are the first group to receive this alluring award and all thanks to the organizing team because when I received my award for serving 10 years at RES, I just walked away with a piece of paper,” Jackson joked.
Jackson further encouraged employees to vaccinate against COVID-19 for those who have not yet vaccinated and those who have to take the booster shot.

RES Continues Fight Against Covid-19
According to RES Corporation medical team, a total of 2 946 employees have vaccinated against COVID-19 while there are 6 500 COVID-19 tests that have been conducted.
RES Group Public Affairs Manager Sifiso Nyembe said: “We continue to work vigorously and diligently as a business to curb the increase of infections. We are grateful that our medical team is always working against the clock to ensure that employees and the community within our operational scope is well informed and gets the medical assistance required during this challenging and trying times.
Nyembe said the fact of the matter is that a new wave of fresh infections is upon us, and RES is not insulated.
“The focus now is to encourage all employees to get vaccinated, sanitize, wash hands using water and soap, social distancing and wearing of masks.”
“RES has the duty to ensure that the safety of employees in the workplace is improved.”

RES employee happy for 40 years
Nhlanhla Nxumalo was the only employee to be awarded to have served RES for 40 years
having joined the giant sugar company in February 19, 1981.
Praise and recognition are crucial components of well-rounded work cultures and
environments.
Nxumalo said: “I am very pleased with the organization and the direction that we are
heading. It’s obvious that management is committed to making this a first class operation and
our success will reflect the dedication. When I see leadership demonstrate this kind of
behaviour, I feel very proud and humbled to be a part of this organization. Nxumalo has had
the honour of seeing this company transform through four decades. “The business has grown
tremendously and I am happy that the portfolio continues to be diverse, with the latest even
being the takeover of IYSIS. I benefitted from this company and I am happy that it will be
here to support generations after me”.

Nxumalo received a standing ovation when he was called to the podium to collect his award.
