MORE THAN 1 000 EMASWATI WILL NOW QUENCH THEIR THIRST WITH CLEAN WATER, COURTESY OF RES

SIMUNYE - Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.

The Royal Eswatini Sugar (RES) Corporation has again changed lives of thousands of Emaswati who were struggling to have clean water closer to their community.

Proceeds from the last annual Charity golf tournament, raised approximately E234 570. At least 23 sponsorship partners either participated or donated in kind. The tournament was held in 2019 and due to the Covid-19 pandemic regulations the commissioning of the projects was delayed.

These funds were used towards 2 water boreholes installations at Sitsatsaweni and Malindza areas. RES once again partnered with National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), the agency provided technical & administrative services and resource support; identifying and facilitating the projects. This includes supply of borehole pumps and material.

RES Managing Director Nick Jackson said; “Water is a challenge in most communities in the Lubombo region and through partnering with other companies, over the years we have been able to provide at least 8 boreholes for different communities including these 2 communities.”

“The two communities have been struggling to get source of water and in total 1461 Emaswati will benefit from the projects. The communities travel long distances to access the water which is unclean and not safe for human consumption, since they share it with animals. Elderly people cannot reach the water source and sometimes pupils go to school without bathing as water is not enough.”

Jackson further expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the companies that made the projects a success with much recognition forwarded to the anchor sponsor of the tournament Augusta Enterprises.

Meanwhile, NDMA Operations Director Victor Mahlalela applauded RES Corporation’s Managing Director Nick Jackson for coming up with the idea of the tournament because it has benefitted thousands of Emaswati, saving lives in the process.

“This tournament has yielded a positive impact to numerous communities and the partnership with RES is growing yearly, which benefits the mandate of our organization which is to mitigate such challenges. I would like to also put emphasis on the maintenance of the boreholes and urge the communities to take extra care of the boreholes for sustainability purposes.”

Nzuleni Bucopho beNkhundla who was only identified as LaMphofu extended her sincere appreciation to RES and partners for giving the community hope and surety that development can be attained even in their community.

“The Sky is the limit. We are grateful for such a blessing to the community be we have been using dirty water and we would also share the water with livestock. We promise to take care of the boreholes and ensure that it stays for more years,” she said.
