Mhlume - The Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation (RES) Mhlume Support Group continues to lend a helping hand in these times of need.
Last week, the support group donated items worth over E10 000 to the community schools to help fight against the spread of COVID-19.
The schools are: Mavula Primary, Tshaneni Primary and Vuvulane Primary School.
The donated items included face masks, liquid soap and disinfectants. The Support Gruop committee, Head of Mhlume Estate Department, the RES Health and Wellness team were present and honoured to be able to give back to the three schools that were represented by their respective Head Teachers.
On behalf of the committee, the Chairperson, Raymond Magagula, said they chose these schools because the donated items were in demand. Magagula said following the re-opening of schools recently, it was important to ensure that pupils were protected and all neccessary protective clothing and other essentials made available to aid succesful learning in these tough times.
He further said that they would be partnering with other Estate Support Groups to reach more schools in the near future.
Magagula added that the Support Group was a brain child of the RES Managing Director.
"Jackson has taught us that giving back to the less fortunate is an investment and to see the Support Group grow and make a positive impact in the community is very rewarding," Magagula said.
He further alluded that the Support Group recently raised funds to procure branded apparel for their members to clad everytime they went out to make a positive difference.
Estate Production Manager Lewis Thobela said taking good care of the schools around the company was an exciting investment because these schools produced future company employees. He further commended the team for a job well done and encouraged them to continue with their good work.
A Head Teacher, who spoke on behalf of the Schools, said they were very thankful for the donation. She said a number of the pupils were double orphans and living with their grandparents and as such, the donation would lessen the burden on the elderly. "Also, this donation may appear to be little but it will surely go a long way and will ensure that the children have a face mask everyday of school and enough sanitizer to disinfect on a regular basis. "Moreover, the comfort of knowing that the schools have the necessary essentials to fight the virus is heartwarming to us teachers and parents because this means we are sending children to school with the knowledge that they are at less risk of returning home infectious."she said.
RES Grooup Public Affairs Manager, Sifiso Nyembe said, "RES is a proud active contributor to the socio-economic development of neighbouring communities. This donation is an emphasis and a positive affirmation that on behaf of the corporation, its employees are playing a vital role in doing just that - being an active contributor to the socio-economic development of communities. Well done," he said.
