RES CORP. SIYAKHA TEAMS IN COMMUNITY PROJECTS

SOCCER-TEAMS playing under the Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation Siyakha1800 programme used the football break caused by the spread of COVID 19 to engage in community projects.

The projects seek to change the lives of the destitute in the communities. As per the obligations of RES Corporation to engage in Corporate Social Investment (CSI), the teams led by Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA) executive committee visited two areas for the exercise last weekend.

The first stop was Nyambo area near Matsetsa, where the participants planted vegetable seedlings worth R300 for a garden of Nyambo Care Point, which is home to close to 200 children who are beneficiaries.

The participants then proceeded to Mafucula area in the Northern part of Lubombo for the same exercise, where they donated food items to a destitute Shiba family. In both areas, all the stakeholders took a collective responsibility to come up with items to be used in the success of the project. One of the people who donated some items is Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Vice president Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane, who is not new in supporting such projects in the region. The project brought smiles to the beneficiaries, who could not hide their delight as they expressed their feelings about the support they get from football people.

The Siyakha programme is the brainchild of RES Corporation, which pumped in a sum of E180 000 to be contended in three categories namely; grassroots, juniors and seniors league. Every football season, teams campaigning under this programme engage in community projects.

Previously, there have been such activities in areas like Shewula and Ngomane, whereby the teams brought smiles to many community members.

Even this time around, the teams spread their wings to other areas, as evidenced over the past weekend. Present during the event were LRFA Executive Committee members, including Chairman Nichodemus ‘Ace’ Mashwama, Secretary General Sicelo Nene, Treasurer Thokozani Shongwe and Technical Director Frank ‘The Horse’ Maziya.

Others include Lubombo North West League Secretary Sylvester Dlamini, as well as team’s representatives and community members.
