RES COMMISSIONS COMMUNITY MARKET SHELTERS - MANGWENI AND MLIBA

RES continues to invest in creating sustainable communities through various development initiatives, enterprise and community development, women and youth empowerment, education support, access to potable water, community health, environmental conservation, sports development, and other various forms of assistance.

The two (2) market shelters were commissioned at Mangweni and Mliba Clinics, and to-date, a total of nine (9) shelters have been constructed and commissioned by RES in the last 3 years.

The structures are valued at average E75k per structure. Therefore, over E675k has been invested to date.

The shelters can accommodate at least 10 – 15 women, improving the operating conditions for their small enterprises. Empowering women benefits society in multiple ways, as they anchor household livelihoods. These 2 shelters are ideally placed near Clinics and at Mliba, it is placed near a school as well, which are prime locations that will benefit customers and ensure decent quality goods services. With improved area aesthetics from previous structures.

Furthermore, local suppliers are used for labour and resource supply in the construction of all these shelters.

We applaud the efforts of benefiting ladies at Mangweni Clinic who constructed toilets with left over material for their market. We implore all to take good care of these structures to ensure they benefit for years to come.

RES is intentional at being a catalyst for positive socio-economic change driving shared value in our area.

Our investment results in enhanced economic participation, contributing to growth and improved quality of life within our operating geographies and fence line communities.

As key stakeholders, we focus on creating highly engaged communities which improves intelligence, therefore we aim to partner towards more data-driven decision making and evidence-based interventions. We encourage leaders and members to continue being open to engaging and we have witnessed a significant positive shift within this area in recent years.

Obed Mazibuko, spoke on behalf of Indlunkhulu at Mangweni and said, “We are short of words to express our gratitude. The market shelter is also well placed next to the Clinic and close to a school. This will increase traffic to the visually appealing structure, which also promotes cleanliness and hygiene of the products sold.” He further emphasized that with the increased traffic, the women will sell more and continue to feed and raise their children with what they make from selling.”

Make Nhlengetfwa who spoke on behalf of boMake at Mliba said that they were grateful for the company’s kind gesture and that as a community, they realise the importance of developing a mutually beneficial relationship. She further said, “as a neighbourly neighbour to the company and the fields, we will make sure that any suspicious activity in and around the fields, we will raise an alarm because as a community, we benefit from the company as well.”

Last but not least, Magagula, Indvuna at Mliba assured RES that as a community asset, the market shelter would be well taken care of to ensure that it serves its purpose for a long time.
