RES CORPORATION INTRODUCES MORE SHIFTS, WORK FROM HOME


Amid the scourge of COVID-19, the Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation (RES Corporation) has introduced more shifts and other initiatives aimed at preventing the spread of the pandemic



At present, a number of companies have opted to shut down, while others opted to reduce their workforce as mitigation efforts. The sugar company has, however saved its employees’' jobs and has introduced a number of closely monitored precautions instead. 

The company's communication officer stated that it had among global corporates joined hands in ensuring that employees and Emaswati residing within the corporate's estates were at minimal risk of being infected. 

The management is said to have made alterations in the company's operations to mitigate the global pandemic following the announcement of the partial lockdown on March 24. 

"We're following the situation closely and are referring extensively to World Health Organization guidelines to help us take appropriate decisions," reads part of the press release. 

Managing Director of the company Nick Jackson is said to have highlighted that the company took both its workforce and the people living around its premises as a priority. Amongst other initiatives which the company has taken is the introduction of more shifts. The workers get to their various work stations in intervals, whereby each group comprises of fewer workers than normal.

For those who require to be transported to their workstations, the staff busses take a minimum of 20 workers per trip. Furthermore, the company is said to have given some workers the choice of working from home or part of the shifts. 

In their crucial departments, management is reported to have taken the decision to suspend the biometric access system because of its contact nature, and replaced it by enforcing fixed opening and closing times of certain buildings. 

Alcohol testing, which is connected to the access control system has been deactivated temporarily and replaced with the safest and hygienic random testing with hand-held devices. The company is said to have also closed down bars within its premises. 

Moreover, churches that operate within the company's premises have also been given strict instructions to adhere to the minimum of 20 people per session.
