RSSC PLANTS SUGARY FUTURE IN 38 INTERNS

The Employer of Choice hosted a farewell function for 38 students enrolled in local universities and colleges after a successful completion of their internship programme at the sugar company.

The Royal Swaziland Sugar Corporation (RSSC) is one of the leading cane growing and sugar milling companies in Southern Africa and employees more than 3 500 employees.
In RSSC’s pursuit to enhance the talent pipeline, the company has continuously engaged interns for local and international universities and colleges.
Speaking during the farewell function of the students, Learning and Talent Manager Sethembile Shiba said; “The purpose for this initiative is to afford the students an opportunity to gain industrial exposure which is of mutual benefit to the students and the company.”
“The internship is also used to identify potential talent as a feeder to the Graduate Traineeship Programme.”
Shiba added that the sugar company has two intakes, one in June for local students and another in January for students from South African institutions and further afield.
Group Public Affairs Manager Sifiso Nyembe elaborated on the company’s vision towards building talent for the future said; “You don’t plant a tree the day you need a shade. We believe that we should build tomorrow’s talent and skills today. The internship programme allows us to do that.”
“Although internships provide students with a great way to learn and expand their knowledge within an industry, it’s not always going to be sugary. It takes commitment from the students as much as it does from RSSC.”
Nyembe added; “Not everyone gets this opportunity, so the students better appreciate it and embrace it fully. The future lies in their hands.”
Mxolisi Maseko spoke on behalf of the students and thanked the company management for giving them an opportunity to learn from one of the large companies in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
“We would like to thank RSSC for giving us an exceptional experience in our various fields and teaching us new methods of executing our duties. We came here with theory knowledge and today we leave RSSC with industrial knowledge. We appreciate and will always treasure the experience we got from interning at RSSC,” Maseko said.
