RSSC WANTS MORE YOUTH IN ENGINEERING

Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare today.

RSSC Corporate Social Investment Manager Phindile Dlamini was speaking after handing over a replica cheque worth E43 000 to support the Enriching Engineering Education Program (EEEP) which is mentored by the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) under the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

According to UNESWA EEEP Project Coordinator John Mahlalela, EEEP School’s outreach program aims to address engineering skills and diversity challenges by introducing children and young people to the fun and excitement of Engineering in a university research environment.

“We are also mitigating the challenges faced in the engineering field by using teams of students, both male and female, staff volunteers and industry representatives to help make Engineering, Higher Education in general, and the University of Eswatini in particular, accessible, to raise aspirations and to reduce gender/culture stereotypes,” Mahlalela added.

The group of fifteen volunteers including UNESWA students, teaching staff and industry expects visited eight schools with the communities surrounding the sugar company, namely; Ngomane High, Lusoti High, Mhlume High, Vuvulane High, Mbokojweni High, Shewula High, Nkalashane High and Lomahasha High School.

“I would like to thank RSSC for being fully involved in the program, not only by sponsoring the E43 000 for food and accommodation, but also by allowing two company employees who are industry expects to implement the program with the EEEP team.”

RSSC CSI Manager Phindile Dlamini said; “RSSC is always looking at innovative ways of helping neighbouring communities and education is one of the key necessities for community development. With educated, innovative and creative generations, the Kingdom of Eswatini will be able to meet His Majesty King Mswati 111’s 2022 vision.”

“As a sugar growing and milling company, we support the empowerment of engineers, especially women engineers because we understand the challenges faced by the youth in choosing engineering as a career.”

Dlamini further thanked RSSC management for opening their hands and supporting such innovative and significant initiatives.
