93 MANAGERS FROM 17 DIFFERENT COMPANIES GRADUATE FROM RSSC’S LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

SIMUNYE - The Royal Swaziland Sugar Corporation rolled out a red carpet for the second batch of managers and supervisors from 17 different companies to graduate from its Leadership Academy.

This was the second graduation from the Leadership Academy since its initiation in 2017 where the sugar company partnered with the University of Stellenbosch Business School, and its key objective is to develop leadership skills among managers and supervisors, in order to achieve efficiency in the workplace.
The glamorous graduation ceremony, which was graced by RSSC senior management and other prominent individuals in the corporate sector was held at Simunye Country Club.
A total of 93 managers and supervisors from various companies including a corporation from Mozambique graduated.
In his remarks during the event, RSSC Managing Director Nick Jackson explained that, the RSSC Leadership Academy’s partnership with USB-ED is maturing steadily.
“It has only been two years of collaboration, but the impact has been astounding. Last year we started with 108 students across all 3 programmes, with only nine being external of RSSC and representative of six companies around Swaziland, but this year the number of external participants escalated to thirty one from across seventeen organisations in Swaziland and Mozambique,” said Jackson.
The MD added that the upsurge of interest from companies to educate their managers and supervisors is a demonstration of the fact that there is great desire to appropriately up skill employees for the agile future facing the economy.
“One of the key challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is skills crisis and government cannot solve this challenge on her own, but needs business to adapt to constant change and skills crisis brought about the Fourth Industrial Revolution, business has adopted an “agility first” prescription to future – proof their companies and outlast disruption,” Jackson emphasized.
To graduates Jackson; “Business is faced with big bets in the race for agility which includes developing leaders that are agile and adaptable. Each of you are here because you have made a decision to be a leader and not a follower and that is the single most important decision in your career you could make, so congratulations.”
Meanwhile, RSSC’s Operations General Manager, Patrick Myeni applauded the RSSC Leadership Academy and the University of Stellenbosch Business School for a phenomenal ceremony which is a culmination of some months of hard work and committed passion in providing an opportunity for leadership development not only for Swaziland but for what promises to be for the SADC region as interest from other countries is increasingly growing.
“Last but not least, to the graduates who were committed to ensuring that they receive the training they needed to reach to the next level and finish the programmes successfully being better equipped to challenge the status quo back in the business, thus bringing about the much needed new perspective to navigate the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
“We are already in anticipation of next year and believe that we will be having more organisations on board as you have seen the results of these programmes and will not hesitate to do referrals both to colleagues and industry players alike,” Myeni said.
