These were the words of RSSC Corporate Social Investment Manager Phindile Dlamini, during the presentation of clothes donated by employees to Baphalali Red Cross Society yesterday.

The donation was held at the Red Cross offices at Siteki and Dlamini represented the employees. Dlamini highlighted that the sugar company employees took it upon themselves to donate clothes to the underprivileged, especially during the winter season.

“As employees we realised that such noble actions not only enhance the quality of life for those around us but also inspires good actions in others. With that noted, our company has lived up to its obligation of being an active contributor the socio economic development of the country, and as employees we figured out that there is something we can do as well to assist the company support the act of good will,” she said.

Siteki Baphalali Red Cross Society, John Lukhele, expressed the society’s gratitude to RSSC employees for having such a giving heart and leading by example to others in the country. “This is the first time in my experience working with the less fortunate and to see employees donating to us. It is truly magnificent to note that other companies do preach the gospel of giving to the needy in a workplace environment because most companies prefer to make the donations themselves.

Lukhele also appreciated the fact that the majority of the clothes donated by employees would benefit children who were mostly left out when other people were donating.

“Siteki has very low temperatures and the numbers of less fortunate children are high, this will go a long way in assisting the underprivileged communities around this town.” On the other hand, Baphalali Red Cross Siteki Coordinator Mduduzi Nkambule, also shared the difficulties faced by their offices in Siteki when it came to children’s clothing. “The children around this town face a lot of challenges and the need is cumulative because statistics of those in need are on the rise,” Nkambule said.

Over the past few years, RSSC has changed the lives through the different initiatives and of which some came the company’s innovative idea of teaching the less fortunate how to fish instead of providing them with the fish. The RSSC Youth Entreprenuership Support Programme (YES) is a good example of that, where the company’s entrepreneurship competition gives the winning contestant winning capital to kick start their businesses, thus opening more career opportunities especially for the youth.
