RES'S THEMBELISHA PREPARATORY SCHOOL REACHES OUT TO NEEDY PEERS

SHEWULA - More should be done to assist our immediate community – learning and experiencing empathy is a skill that must be acquired by our children to enable them to take their place as global citizens.

The sugar company’s school continues to follow in the footsteps of the parent company of being an active contributor to the socio economic development of Eswatini and this time around they continued with their journey of assisting two Shewula Care Points with non-perishable foodstuffs and books made by the Thembelisha pupils.

Thembelisha Preparatory School Principal Gina Marucchi said; “From Success to Significance - with this in mind, the Thembelisha family collected the usual non-perishable foodstuffs that are taken annually to two Shewula care points, but this time we wanted to leave something that could continue for more that a couple of weeks. The Junior Preparatory made big books on different topics, with lots of pictures and the words written both in SiSwati and English.”

“The pages were covered in plastic contact, to enhance the life of the books. Plastic bottle-tops were collected and holes drilled through each lid – these are used to thread onto string/cord – enhancing hand eye co-ordination, dexterity and concentration.”

She added that all the children were so intrigued and enthusiastic about the books and the threading and it created an ever lasting impression on the Thembelisha Grade 3’s and 6’s who enjoyed sharing these activities with the little ones.

“More of this type of outreach should be done. We need to be robust in our thinking  and move beyond food parcels (although still included), to a place where a more lasting impact can be made.”

RES Group Public Affairs Manager Sifiso Nyembe who is also the school’s manager said; “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well. As a company we are instilling life skills and values to these children that will make them better and stronger leaders of tomorrow. For them to go all out and assist their peers, they will know that there is always a less fortunate individualathat one can assist and change that person’s life for the better.”

“There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up,” Nyembe added.
